I built a successful early career in sales, both in retail and then IT/Telecoms. Whilst at BT, I became the youngest Manager in the Aberdeen office, taking on a B2B sales team at a point where we were transitioning to digital technology and products. I turned my team into the highest performing in terms of revenue, in the area and was asked to transition into the Repair department. This involved leading a team of highly experienced engineers and technicians who had moved into an online support team. There was a low satisfaction score internally and a pushback from the team to any leadership decisions and direction within the company due to a huge restructure and divestment of engineering from a BT business to a separate entity, equally available to all service providers. Through open, honest and effective leadership and communication, turned low performing team into the highest performing repair team in the region. Improving internal satisfaction from 30-70%. Improved external customer satisfaction for business repair from 40-90% and led circa £1 cost savings through performance coaching and team restructure.
Over a 4 year period, became the fastest consultant to reach Director level in 40 year history of AAA. Vast learning curve of recruitment practices and Energy Sector. Created a Sales & Marketing recruitment desk that generated over £1m revenue in first year. Created separate Executive Division, using succession planning effectively to progress through the business. Build lean model to deliver 33% profit against £1m turnover.
With 3 young children, started first business with 2 colleagues, secured £50k investment and then the energy industry, which was our key market, crashed! Reduced earnings by 50% to ensure business survival. Fast forward 4 years to a £3m business with 12 staff, working across various sectors and with bespoke software created to disrupt market with how candidates were assessed and presented.
During COVID, with 2 colleagues, created recreation business, Wreck it Room, the only one of it’s kind in Scotland. Taking an idea from concept to reality. With no investment, grew business from £0-£80k and despite economic downturn, not only managed to keep the business running to this date, but also created a new business stream, Splash Art Studio, within the premises. Transitioned from simple public sessions to running successful team building sessions in conjunction with my other business, as well as creation of party and group booking sessions, working with national companies such as Itison and Wowcher.
